The Butterfield group is a full service community bank and a provider of specialised international financial services.

 

Our headquarters and largest operations are in Bermuda, where we were established in 1858 as the Island’s first bank, and continue to play an important role in the local economy.

 

The Butterfield group offers a full range of community banking services in Bermuda, Barbados and the Cayman Islands, encompassing retail and corporate banking and treasury activities. In the wealth management area, the group provides private banking, asset management and personal trust services from its headquarters in Bermuda and subsidiary offices in The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Malta, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Butterfield also provides services to corporate and institutional clients from offices in Bermuda, The Bahamas, the Cayman Islands and Guernsey, which include asset management and corporate trust services. Butterfield is a publicly traded corporation with shares listed on the Bermuda and Cayman Islands stock exchanges. Our share price is also available on Bloomberg Financial Markets (symbol: NTB BH).

Butterfield Bank (UK) Limited is registered in England, No. 338594. Its registered office is found at 99 Gresham Street, London EC2V 7NG.

 

Butterfield Bank (UK) Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Limited.

 

Butterfield Bank (UK) Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000.

 

Butterfield Bank (UK) Limited’s policy is to maintain a strong balance sheet with a high level of liquidity, which is reflected in the favourable ratings allocated by Fitch, the leading European rating agency. These ratings are: short-term, F1; individual, C; and, support, 1.

 

Butterfield Bank (UK) Limited is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

 

Compensation payments under the scheme are limited as follows:

 

  • Deposits – maximum £50,000 per person. Most depositors, including individuals and small firms, are covered. Deposits denominated in all currencies are treated alike.
  • Investments – maximum £48,000 per person (100% of the first £30,000 and 90% of the next £20,000).

 

None of the overseas Butterfield companies is an Authorised Person subject to the rules and regulations made under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 for the protection of investors.  Compensation under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme will not be available in respect of business transacted with them.

 

The UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme is not applicable to deposits held outside the UK.
